Tramtown - Guided Depot Tours

Ever wondered how our famous Heritage Trams make their way on to the tracks? Well now you can see the inner-workings of our Heritage Tram Centre and hear just how we keep the wheels turning on our wonderful world-famous Heritage Trams.

The tour will last 90 minutes and you’ll be guided around our tram sheds and engineering workshops by one of our resident experts who will talk you through each area and the work we’re doing to preserve our history for years to come.

All money collected from our unique tours will contribute to the preservation of our trams for future years. Our fundraiser explains our challenges and ambitions for the future.

Family Depot Tours

The Family Depot Tours will return later in 2023, once the dates are finalised.

Our shorter tour will last 45 minutes and will give your children a history experience they’ll remember for a lifetime! Our Family Depot Tour gives the whole family a chance to not only get to see the home of our  Heritage trams, like the popular Western train and Rocket Tram.

Each of these trams has a unique story about their past, some are up to 90 years old and one is over 120! As you’ll imagine, they’ve had quite a life and you can enjoy stories told by our tour guides about our special vehicle’s past, present and future.

The tour will capture different aspects of our tram depot, diving behind the scenes to see what makes a tram tick whilst exploring all the work you don’t usually see. You’ll explore our tram shed, which houses over 40 different heritage trams. This is a history lesson to ‘WOW’ the whole family!

Recent Activity

Tramtown Revealed

Tramtown, was the name chosen in 2022 for our tram heritage centre project with the ambition of providing a stable and secure future for our beloved heritage trams, a unique and very key ingredient in Blackpool’s tourism offer.

The overwhelming and success of our first year of depot tours has proved what an attraction we have. In parallel, our volunteers have made the site more welcoming. Soon major changes will be taking place, and a very interesting time is ahead. Our success with the depot will also be a leader in helping regenerate the local area and support the local community.
