Heritage Tram Conductor Volunteers

Since the upgrade of the world-famous Blackpool Tramway, a group of dedicated volunteers have been trained and qualified to drive and conduct the original 1930’s fleet of Blackpool Trams which operate weekends, bank holidays and during the Illuminations.

As a Heritage tram conductor, you are responsible for safely loading and unloading passengers at our tram stops, issuing appropriate tickets, collecting fares and correctly paying in the revenue taken, providing exceptional customer service and being an ambassador for the heritage trams and our wonderful town. You also operate manual points in the track and on certain trams, turn the ‘trolley’ which collects the electricity from the overhead wires to power the vehicle. Safety is of course paramount and full training will be provided both in the training room and practically on board one of our fleet.

Our daytime duties are usually 1000hrs to 1730hrs and then evening Illuminations approximately 1700hrs to 2200hrs although the start time varies due to the changing switch on times. We also have private hires, special tours and event weekends so you can be involved in a variety of duties and can be very flexible. The only thing we ask that you volunteer at least two days per month in order to satisfy the company safety competence requirements.

Applicants should be smart, have a mature approach and be willing to integrate with a dedicated and passionate, customer focussed team. Basic literacy and numeracy skills are essential, you must be medically fit to PCV standard and be able to pass industry standard assessments.
