Our Anniversary Weekend

Balloon Tram & Western Train by Blackpool Tower

Anniversary Weekend

Since the first tracks were laid in Blackpool, creating a well-connected transport system across the Fylde Coast, 137 years have passed yet our tramway still stands! With only 8 major tramways left in the UK, is it hard to realise that there is only a fraction of trams in use across the country, compared to the 14,000 trams in 1927.

That’s why we celebrate what we have, as opposed to what could have been, in Blackpool we boast a still very young light rail system, and house over 30 historic trams, many of which used to be normal service trams for the Fylde Coast and some over 100 years old.

So, what are we doing to mark another year of Historic Heritage Trams in Blackpool?

On Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th September, we will be offering a selection of pre-bookable, pay-as-you-board and limited-time exclusive tours!

  • Join us for a Mini System Tour on Sunday, giving you the chance to ride new areas of the track that were previously out of bounds. Ride over new crossings and turning points, seeing the tram tracks in a whole new light. We ran a full systems tour at our last event weekend, but this condensed 2-hour version is still packed with new track areas to explore.
  • Back for 2022, look behind the scenes of our Starr Gate Depot, this guide around our unique light rail tram depot is here by popular demand so don’t wait around booking your spot. See what makes a tram wheel turn and all the hard work that you don’t get to see! Not forgetting our Rigby Road Depot Tours, there are two chances on Saturday to go behind the scenes and see every inch of our remarkable depot, housing over 30 different trams, some you’ll probably recognise from times gone by.
  • There is an abundance of Classic Promenade and Coastal Tours for you to ride all weekend, pre-bookable too. If you enjoy spontaneous tours as much as we do, our Hop on/Hop off ticket is available for each day, granting you unlimited Promenade and Coastal Tours and non-stop travel on all Blackpool buses and trams to spend your day without limitations.
  • Our Themed Tours take a tram tour to the next level, and enjoy the coastline with a twist! Whether you want a truly British chippy meal on your tour or a refreshing local ale, we’ve got you covered with our Fish and Chip Tram Tour and Real Ale Tour. Our Ghost Tram takes you on an adventure around the Fylde with Ghost Hunter Stephen Mercer, unravelling some of Blackpool’s darkest secrets…
  • Special mention to our Illumination Tours, running on both evenings, you’ll get to experience Blackpool Illuminations the proper way,

At the time of booking, you are able to choose from a small selection of souvenirs. If you purchase any of these, they will be handed to you once you have boarded your tour. They are also available for home delivery, along with over a hundred other items, in our online shop.
