As we head into our busy summer season we are now looking to expand our team and have the following exciting volunteer opportunities available.

Heritage Tram Tours logo

As a Heritage Ambassador, you will predominantly be based on Blackpool’s amazing Promenade engaging with potential customers and promoting our tours. Selling pre-booked seats on our Promenade and Coastal tram tours, you will also assist the Tramcrew team in checking in passengers and ensuring that our customers have a warm welcome as they board their tour. Times vary as we operate daytime and evening trams and not forgetting our famous Illuminations tours which run every evening from September. This varied role may see you also helping out onboard our trams with the Fish & Chip, Ghost and Afternoon Tea experiences, to name but a few. Leafleting and engaging with hotels and local businesses, representing Heritage Tram Tours at trade and tourism events and assisting with our online shop are just a few more tasks you can help with this varied, flexible and exciting new post within the heritage operations team.

As a Conductor, you work with a Driver and are responsible for safely loading and unloading passengers at our tram stops, issuing appropriate tickets, collecting fares and correctly paying in the revenue taken, providing exceptional customer service and being an ambassador for the heritage trams and our wonderful town. You also operate manual points in the track and on certain trams, turn the ‘trolley’ which collects the electricity from the overhead wires to power the vehicle. Duties are usually 1000hrs to 1730hrs and then evening Illuminations approximately 1700hrs to 2200hrs although the start times vary due to the changing switch on times. We also have private hires, special tours and event weekends so you can be involved in a variety of duties and can be very flexible.

In return for volunteering with us, you will be provided with full training and support in the role, a smart uniform and generous travel concessions on Blackpool Transport bus and tram services.

Please note: Applicants should be smart, have a mature approach and be willing to integrate with a dedicated and passionate, customer focussed team. Basic literacy and numeracy skills are essential and for the Conductor’s post, you must be medically fit to PCV (Bus Driver) standard and will be subject to industry standard assessments as part of the recruitment process. This is a safety critical role and requires a minimum commitment of two shifts per month in order to remain competent.
